Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation Presents: Pieces of Eight

At this week’s MKAF Concerts in the Village Summer Concert Series performance, Pieces of Eight will perform Motown, Soul, R & B, and Beach music with lots of brass!



During this fantastic and energetic outdoor event, a band plays for a crowd spanning the grass that the Dugas Pavilion overlooks. The audience can bring their own food and drinks to enjoy, or they can purchase them on site. Also, be sure to bring lawn chairs or towels to sit on. Come ready for a night of upbeat tunes and a spectacular performance that you won’t forget!

NWF State Offers Summer Musical Theatre Workshop for Students

Northwest Florida State College

The Northwest Florida State College Fine & Performing Arts Division will offer its popular Summer Musical Theatre Workshop (formerly known as Camp Glee) for youth ages 13 to 21 from June 8 to July 2. Enrollment in the workshop is accepted April 28 through the first day of class on a space available basis. Enroll in person at all seven NWF State College locations or by web.



Now in its 18th year, the program provides youth the opportunity to train with college faculty in acting, voice, makeup, dance and staging and to perform at the state-of-the-art facilities of the college's Mattie Kelly Arts Center. No prior experience is necessary.



The culmination of the workshop is the production of a mini summer musical. This year’s production will be the comedy Legally Blonde, Jr., which will be presented Thursday, July 2 for two free performances at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Sprint Theater at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at the college's Niceville campus, 100 College Blvd. The performances of Legally Blonde, Jr. on July 2 are open to the public and free of charge.

City of Destin’s 30th Annual Christmas Parade

This year’s theme is “Christmas Trees & Memories, Celebrating Destin’s 30 Years.” The floats will start at Downtown Destin Shopping Center (Old Time Pottery) and travel West down Harbor Blvd. (Hwy. 98) to Nightown on Stahlman Avenue. Please stand on the north side of Harbor Blvd. to watch the floats.

The Destin Harbor will be dancing with holiday lights and cheer during the 28th Annual Destin Boat Parade. Come enjoy live music, children’s arts and crafts, and hot chocolate! Visit Santa Claus from noon to 4 p.m. The boat parade begins at 6 p.m. Following the parade, will be a spectacular fireworks display over the Destin Harbor.

Holiday on the Harbor


Nothing says Christmas on the beautiful Emerald Coast like a magically lit boat parade idling down the Destin Harbor on a Sunday evening. On December 15, 2013, watch the 27th Annual Holiday on the Harbor Destin Boat Parade pass by from the Boardwalk, dock, restaurant, or even your balcony up above. Your friends and family will be in awe at the colorful and calming sight in the spirit of the holidays! The Destin History and Fishing Museum will host the event. Festivities will be held that afternoon along Destin Harbor.

Participating boats will begin lining up in the Destin Harbor between 5 and 5:30 p.m. The parade will kick off at 6 p.m. and judging with take place upstairs at Harry T’s Restaurant. A lightshow of fireworks will decorate the night sky at the close of the boat parade.

All commercial, charter, and private boats are invited to light up the Destin Harbor with true Destin spirit. Prizes will be awarded for the following categories: private 30 ft. and under, private 31 ft. and over, charter/commercial boat 30 ft. and under, charter/commercial boat 31 ft. and over, tour boat/motorized, sailboat 30 ft. and under, sailboat 31 ft. and over. An additional award will be presented to the Best Overall lighted boat entry. The City of Destin is sponsoring an award to the boat that best showcases the Harbor heritage. 



You can pick up an entry form in person at the Museum, Destin Community Center, City Hall, DestinChamber of Commerce, or many Destin Harbor businesses. You can also request an email copy by calling the Destin History and Fishing Museum at 850-837-6611 or by emailing Kathy Marler Blue at KathyDestinHistory@gmail.com. There is a $25 entry fee per boat.


In the event of poor weather conditions, the parade will be held on Sunday, December 22.
